Meet Rán Art—the illustrator behind How to Catch a Dream, a daydreamer and a memory restorer.
If you’ve read my post about how I discovered Linh, the artist behind “Lily and Her Uncle’s Squad”, you may be familiar with my approach to finding connections with illustrators.
How Did We Meet?
After collaborating with Linh on my first book, I began searching for someone who could visualize and bring my imagination and story to life. I was thrilled when I received an email from Rán Art, known as Tuyen.
As I reviewed her email and portfolio, I must admit that I wasn’t initially captivated by her previous projects. It wasn’t a matter of quality or professionalism; rather, something felt missing. I sense that, sometimes artists may be influenced by external factors such as authors and editors, leaving little room for them to express their true self.
I wanted to learn about her—who she is at her core.
Then I found it, silently but overwhelmingly —the essence of Tuyen, beautifully and uniquely captured through a series of personal projects shared on her Facebook fan page. She describes herself as “a storyteller who conveys my feelings and imagination through pictures and illustrations” and as “a DREAMER.”
I needed that! I needed a dreamer to illustrate a story about Dreams!
Her artworks feature vibrant colors and a stunning array of flowers, harmoniously blending humanity, animals, and nature. She invites us into her dreamy world, rich with memories, vintage aesthetics, and, of course, softness and joy. Through her short stories, I felt as though I truly knew her characters; I could easily see myself among them. Sometimes, I might not be the main character, but just a flower quietly witnessing the unfolding tale.
That was the moment everything began.
What About Her Story?
Tuyen found a deep connection and excitement in the story I wished to tell. Everyone seeks their own path and faces different challenges at various stages of life, just like me, you, and Tuyen. She has navigated a spectrum of emotions while embarking on her own journey to find her dreams. She believes that passion fuels the strength needed to overcome obstacles and ultimately “catch” our dreams.
With Tuyen’s relentless spirit, her eagerness to explore new opportunities, and her ability to face life’s challenges, there’s no doubt that this little dreamer, Rán Art, will achieve everything she aspires to in life. I wish her all the best.
Now, let’s take a look at some of Tuyen’s artworks, and you’ll see that what I’ve shared is absolutely true.
